Now you can wear your 6-Day Kid Blanket on your arms and head at the same time!

This retro-trendy piece is the perfect thing to throw on your arms and head to keep warm and look amazingly cool.

The shrug is constructed beginning in the center section with the straight start technique. Once the setup rows are established, each sleeve is started with either chain or foundation sc. The sleeves are worked with the original chevron start along with the center square section. This way we kept the beauty of the chevrons on the sleeves and avoided having an unsightly straight seam.

Once the sleeves are complete, the hood section continues in the center of the pattern. It is a very generous hood. You can completely disappear under it on the subway or wherever you’re feeling intruded upon.

The shrug pictured has fairly slim sleeves with a tiny bit of shaping to make them a little wider at the top. If you would like a wider sleeve you can add an additional repeat of the pattern, which will make your center section a little deeper as well.

I like the raw edge of the end of the sleeve, but you can add a cuff if you want to.

I hope you enjoy this really unusual and cool garment.

About the row numbers:

In order to provide consistency across all of the 6DKB pattern variations, I’ve numbered the rows to correspond to the original 6-Day Kid Blanket pattern. The cluster rows are always Row or Round 2 and 3, the dc rows are always Row or Round 5 and 6, and the sc rows are always Row or Round 4 and 7. This makes it easy to adapt any pattern to the Snowflake Effect, Half Snowflake, Popsicle, or the original Vivid Chevrons.

You will be guided to work the rows in the proper order; don’t let the numbers throw you off or overthink a change in the sequence. You’ll proceed from Setup Row 5 to Row 2. Trust the pattern, it works!

You will now be working the sleeves and the center section.

Row 2: ch 3, sk first 3 sc (the sc on the end of the row, the one below your turning chain counts as 1)
[3dc in next sc, sk next 2 sc] twice, [3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc] into next sc
*sk next 2 sc, 3dc into next sc, sk next 2 sc, dc3tog
sk next 4 sc, dc3tog, sk next 2 sc, 3 dc in next sc, sk next 2 sc
[3 dc, ch3, 3 dc] into next sc; rep from * to last 9 sc
sk next 2 sc [3 dc into next sc, sk next 2 sc] twice, 1 dc into last sc.

Hint: At the join of the sleeve to the center section, your sk 4 sc should sk 2 sts from the sleeve and 2 from the center section.
